The Maria L. Varisco-Rogers Charter School is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and student-centered Music Teacher (Grades K–4) to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year.

The successful candidate will inspire students to develop a lifelong appreciation for music through engaging, hands-on instruction that fosters creativity, self-expression, and confidence. We are looking for an educator who creates meaningful musical experiences while helping students build foundational music skills in a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and assess engaging music instruction aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Visual and Performing Arts.

• Teach foundational music concepts including rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics, movement, singing, and age-appropriate instrumental experiences.

• Foster creativity, musical expression, and confidence through singing, movement, performance, and interactive music activities.

• Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, participation, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse developmental and learning needs of students in grades K–4.

• Integrate music with other academic disciplines when appropriate to enhance student learning and engagement.

• Prepare students for school performances, assemblies, concerts, and other special events throughout the school year.

• Maintain music equipment, instruments, instructional materials, and classroom resources.

• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and participation.

• Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.

• Support school-sponsored activities, family engagement events, field trips, and other community-building opportunities.

• Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

Qualifications

Required

• Valid New Jersey Music Teacher Certification (Standard, CEAS, CE, or Limited CE) or eligibility for certification.

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

• Successful completion of the New Jersey Criminal History Background Check.

Preferred

• Experience teaching elementary music.

• Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate music instruction.

• Experience directing student performances, concerts, or musical productions.

• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

• Commitment to fostering creativity, inclusion, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Salary

Starting at $60,170 annually
Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.
