The Maria L. Varisco-Rogers Charter School is seeking a passionate, innovative, and student-centered Science Teacher (Grades 5–8) to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year.
The successful candidate will inspire students to explore the natural world through inquiry, investigation, and hands-on learning. We are looking for an educator who fosters scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving while creating an engaging classroom environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, collaborate, and discover.

Essential Responsibilities

Plan, implement, and assess engaging, standards-based science instruction aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

Design and facilitate inquiry-based, hands-on laboratory investigations and STEM learning experiences that promote scientific thinking.

Foster a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, collaboration, creativity, and high academic expectations.

Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.

Integrate technology, engineering, and real-world applications into science instruction.

Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments and maintain accurate attendance, grades, and classroom records.

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations.

Collaborate with grade-level teams, intervention staff, and administrators to support student achievement.

Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.

Support school-sponsored activities, STEM initiatives, family engagement events, field trips, and other community-building opportunities.

Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications
Required
-
Valid New Jersey Science Teacher Certification or appropriate instructional certification for Grades 5–8 (Standard, CEAS, CE, or Limited CE), or eligibility for certification.

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Successful completion of the New Jersey Criminal History Background Check.
Preferred

Experience teaching middle school science.

Knowledge of inquiry-based instruction, laboratory safety, and STEM education.

Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

Experience integrating educational technology and data-driven instructional practices.

Commitment to fostering scientific literacy, critical thinking, and student engagement.
Salary
Starting at $60,170 annually
Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.
