The Maria L. Varisco-Rogers Charter School is seeking a creative, passionate, and student-centered Art Teacher (Grades K–4) to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year.
The successful candidate will inspire young artists to explore their creativity, develop foundational artistic skills, and express themselves through a variety of artistic media and techniques. We are looking for an educator who fosters imagination, encourages artistic confidence, and creates an engaging classroom where every student feels valued and empowered to create.

Essential Responsibilities

Plan, implement, and assess engaging visual arts instruction aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Visual and Performing Arts.

Teach students a variety of artistic techniques, media, and processes, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, and digital art, as appropriate.

Foster creativity, imagination, artistic expression, and appreciation for diverse artists, cultures, and artistic traditions.

Create a safe, organized, and inspiring art classroom that promotes creativity, respect, and responsible use of materials.

Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse developmental and learning needs of students in grades K–4.

Integrate cross-curricular connections when appropriate to support classroom learning and student engagement.

Organize and display student artwork throughout the school and assist with school art showcases, exhibitions, or community events.

Maintain inventory and proper care of art supplies, equipment, and classroom resources.

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and participation.

Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.

Support school-sponsored activities, family engagement events, field trips, and other community-building opportunities.

Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications
Required
-
Valid New Jersey Art Teacher Certification (Standard, CEAS, CE, or Limited CE) or eligibility for certification.

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Successful completion of the New Jersey Criminal History Background Check.
Preferred
-
Experience teaching visual arts at the elementary level.

Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate art instruction.

Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills.

Experience integrating technology into visual arts instruction.

Commitment to fostering creativity, inclusion, and artistic exploration for all students.
Salary
Starting at $60,170 annually
Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.
