The Maria L. Varisco-Rogers Charter School is seeking a passionate, creative, and student-centered First Grade Teacher to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year.

The successful candidate will create a nurturing and engaging classroom where young learners develop strong academic, social, and emotional foundations. We are looking for an educator who inspires curiosity, promotes a love of learning, and builds meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and assess engaging standards-based lessons aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

  • Foster a positive classroom culture that promotes respect, responsibility, collaboration, and high academic expectations.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and developmental needs of students.

  • Utilize research-based instructional practices to develop foundational literacy, mathematics, and critical thinking skills.

  • Integrate technology and hands-on learning experiences to enhance student engagement.

  • Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments and maintain accurate attendance, grades, and classroom records.

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and school activities.

  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, intervention staff, and administrators to support student success.

  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.

  • Support school-sponsored activities, family engagement events, field trips, and other community-building opportunities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid New Jersey Elementary School Teacher Certification (Standard, CEAS, CE, or Limited CE) or eligibility for certification.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

  • Successful completion of the New Jersey Criminal History Background Check.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching at the elementary level, preferably in primary grades.

  • Knowledge of early literacy and mathematics instructional best practices.

  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction to support diverse learners.

  • Commitment to fostering an engaging, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment.

Salary

Starting at $60,170 annually
Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.
