Our Instructional Approach

At MLVR, instruction is designed to meet the needs of every learner. Teachers utilize data-driven practices, differentiated instruction, and small group learning to ensure all students are supported and challenged. Our classrooms foster high expectations, active engagement, and a strong commitment to academic excellence. Instruction is focused on ELA/Literacy, Mathematics, STEM integration, and real-world application to promote student engagement and achievement.

Specials

At MLVR, our Specials programs provide students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that enrich the core academic program. Through opportunities in the arts, physical education, STEM, and world languages, students build creativity, confidence, collaboration, and essential life skills.

Specials at MLVR support the development of the whole child through creativity, movement, innovation, and global awareness.

Student Support & InterventionOur support systems are designed to ensure that every student is seen, supported, and positioned for success.

📊 Data-Driven Instruction & Progress Monitoring

Teachers regularly use assessments and student data to identify learning needs, monitor progress, and adjust instruction to ensure continuous academic growth.

📚 Targeted Academic Intervention

Students receive additional support through small group instruction, intervention periods, and skill-based remediation designed to strengthen foundational skills in ELA and Mathematics.

🌍 English Language Learner (ELL) Support

Multilingual learners are supported through specialized instruction that builds English language proficiency while supporting access to grade-level content.

🤝 Special Education & Related Services

Individualized supports and services are provided to ensure students with IEPs receive accommodations and instruction tailored to their learning needs.

🧠 Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Support

MLVR promotes a safe and supportive environment where students receive guidance in developing self-regulation, positive behavior, and social-emotional skills.

Academic Enrichment

At MLVR, we believe learning extends beyond the classroom. Our Academic Enrichment opportunities provide students with meaningful experiences that build creativity, leadership, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving skills. Through a variety of programs and activities, students are encouraged to explore their interests and develop their talents.

🔬 STEM & Innovation Programs

Students engage in hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that promote problem-solving, engineering design, and innovation. Opportunities such as the NJIT eSTEM Challenge and NJ STEAM Tank Challenge allow students to apply their skills in competitive, real-world settings.

💡 Academic Competitions & Recognition

MLVR students participate in enrichment-based competitions and academic challenges that celebrate excellence, creativity, and critical thinking while building confidence and teamwork.

📚 Literacy & Reading Enrichment

Schoolwide initiatives such as our book vending machine promote a love of reading and reward students for literacy achievement, helping to build lifelong readers.

🎓 Leadership & Student Recognition

Through programs such as National Junior Honor Society (Grades 5–8), students are recognized for academic excellence, leadership, service, and character.

🎓 Gifted & Talented Program

MLVR’s Gifted and Talented Program provides enriched and accelerated learning opportunities for students who demonstrate advanced academic abilities. Through challenging, standards-aligned instruction and extension activities, students are encouraged to think critically, solve complex problems, and deepen their learning across all subject areas.

🎨 Clubs & Interest-Based Learning

Students participate in enrichment activities that allow them to explore interests, build new skills, and engage in collaborative learning experiences beyond the core curriculum.

High School Readiness

At MLVR, we are committed to preparing students for success beyond grades K-8. Through rigorous instruction, leadership opportunities, and skill-building experiences, students develop the academic habits, confidence, and independence needed for a successful transition to high school. We also actively support families through the high school selection and application process.

🧭 High School Selection & Application Support

Because MLVR does not operate a high school, we guide families through the application and selection process for a variety of high school options, including district high schools, county vocational-technical schools, charter schools with high school programs, and private schools. Students and families receive support in exploring options, completing applications, and preparing for admissions requirements.
